/ Methodology

The math is public. Argue with it.

Our Trust Score is a weighted sum across five criteria, each scored 0–100. The weights below are the only inputs. There are no hidden bonuses, no affiliate multipliers, no "editorial adjustments." You can re-run the calculation in a spreadsheet in about ten minutes.

/ The formula
trust_score = Σ (subscore[i] × weight[i]) / Σ weights

In practice, since the weights always sum to 100, this simplifies to a weighted sum: each subscore (0–100) is multiplied by its weight (0–100) and the results are summed, then divided by 100.

/ Each criterion, in detail

What each subscore actually measures.

/ 35% weight

Security model

How private keys are generated, stored, and used to sign transactions. Considers secure elements, air-gapping, isolation from the host device, and the robustness of the key management code.

/ 20% weight

Transparency

How openly the company operates. Public team, published audits, disclosed incidents, and verifiable claims. Penalized heavily for opacity, even when the product is technically good.

/ 20% weight

Open code & audits

Whether the wallet code is open source, has been audited by reputable firms, and runs a public bug bounty. Reproducible builds are a major plus.

/ 15% weight

Recovery & custody

What happens if you lose your device, forget your PIN, or die. Considers seed backup, Shamir/multisig, social recovery, inheritance tools, and custodial trade-offs.

/ 10% weight

Support & ecosystem

Documentation quality, response time, dApp ecosystem, integrations, and long-term company health.

/ Worked example

How the 89 for Trezor Safe 5 is computed.

Criterion Raw Weight Weighted
Security model 88 × 35% 31
Transparency 92 × 20% 18
Recovery & custody 90 × 15% 14
Open code & audits 96 × 20% 19
Support & ecosystem 70 × 10% 7
Total 100% 89

Run the math with your own weights.

Every wallet\'s subscores are public on the wallet\'s review page. If you think recovery should weigh 30% instead of 15%, you can compute your own leaderboard in a spreadsheet. We don\'t gate that. We don\'t even require you to tell us.

If you find a subscore you think is wrong, email us. We re-verify every wallet every 90 days.
